Choosing the right water purifier

Drinking pure water, free from all pollutants is a basic requirement for everyone. Ensuring that the water is safe and free from microorganisms would make sure that the person has a healthy and a long life. In old days, people used to collect water in a huge vessel and boil it in smaller vessels before drinking it. Now technology has paved way for what is called as a water purifier,a system that purifies water without much effort.

 This purifierworks with a simple principle to either recycle the unclean water or to kill the microorganisms in the water without recycling it. These devices used for purifying the water have several models in the recent days and can be purchased from any online shopping site that deals in homecare products.

 Things to look out for

There are few things that you need to look out for before you decide to choose a water purifier system for the house.

 The basic things that need consideration are:

  • Filter pore size
  • Type of water to be filtered
  • Recycle efficiency of the purifier
  • Accompaniments that comes along with the purifier
  • Warranty and deals related to the purifier

 Like mentioned before, there are about four different types of water purifier systems that are currently available in the market. These four models work with the same principle for purifying the water but the method that is used for purification differs.

 Based on this, these models are,

  • Gravity based water purifiers:

Compared to the other models, gravity based water purifiers are low in cost. The working principle is very simple. The purifier system has a series of mesh filters stacked upon each other. The pore size varies for each mesh, which is larger to smaller pore sizes are kept to ensure thorough filtration. This generally does not require electricity but has a major setback since this cannot be used for filtering arsenic or fluoride.

  • Reverse osmosis:

This purifier system uses semi-permeable membrane for filtering the heavy metals like nitrate, lead, arsenic and fluoride. An external force is required from the pump to push the water through the membrane. Though it is seen to be effective in getting rid of heavy metals, this is ineffective against viruses or bacteria.

  • UV Purifiers:

UV light has been used in many places to kill the microorganisms. In this, the UV light bulb is fixed to the top of the purifier. Once water is allowed inside the purifier tank, the light is switched on and the light rays penetrate water to kill the bacteria and the viruses.

  • RO-UV Water purifiers:

In this, both Reverse Osmosis and UV system are used for purifying the water. The heavy metals are filtered using Reverse Osmosis membrane and microorganisms are killed using the UV light.

Instead of buying a purifier on the basis of the brand name, try choosing the one that is efficient in action and also which suits your need. This pertains to the health of the people in the house and you cannot afford to make mistakes.
